Adapted Neuropsychological Therapies

Traumatic Brain Injury

Having an injury to your brain as part of an accident or injury is often described as having a "traumatic" or "acquired" brain injury.  For many, the brain is where "we" are in our body, and injury to this can often result in lots of emotions to process. Therapy after brain injury may take the form of understanding how the experience impacted you, or managing psychological symptoms you experience after the injury. You may also have long-term cognitive impact of your head injury.

Dr Lisshammar has worked in Neuropsychological services, in both acute assessment services and neurorehabilitation services,  and is experienced in offering tailored therapy for individuals who have experienced a brain injury. We are not at present able to offer neuropsychological evaluation, but we are able to signpost you to other services who are safe and reputable in this area.

Spinal Cord Injury

Spinal Cord Injury may be a life-changing event. After discharge from hospital, psychological rehabilitation often continues to be ongoing. Adjusting to life after cord injury is something many people seek psychological support for. This may be related to the symptoms following the cord injury itself, or likewise, adjusting to being a wheelchair user, having a visible physical difference,  or navigating the world in a new way. People often also undertake work around connecting their pre-and post cord injury lives into a coherent narrative.

Dr Lisshammar has extensive experience of working with adults and children who have experienced spinal cord injury, and their families. She is able to offer tailored therapy, including access to therapy, that works for your needs.

Dementia and Neurological Conditions

Receiving a diagnosis of dementia, such as Alzheimer's disease, Vasular Dementia, Lewy Body Dementia, or others, can be challenging. Therapy can be a valuable tool to understand the diagnosis and making sense of what this means for you. Likewise, therapy may need to be adjusted to manage the symptoms you may be noticing.

We are able to offer tailored assessments for individuals based on the neuropsychological evaluation done as part of your diagnosis, if you consent to sharing this with us. We are also able to offer adaptations agreed on in therapy, based on your needs. Please note that, depending on the impact of dementia symptoms, in-person sessions may be preferable. Please see our appointments tab for more information on what this entails.

If you are a case manager or acting on behalf of an individual or their insurance provider, please ensure that you contact us via the Contact us form, or email us at jenny@mentinatherapies.com before arranging your client’s first session.
